I do appreciate the help.  I do not even have the slightest clue how to start looking for this, aside from here.

That Kanji (ichi) means "market."

市 【いち】 (n) market; fair; (P)
市は月曜ごとに立つ。 The market is held every Monday.

So, in context of the http://images.nipponcinema.com/releases/ichi-the-movie-fun… the kanji would mean fair: "A woman" or "a beloved woman"?

The meaning "fair" does not mean 'to be fair.'  "Fair" for this Kanji is the same meaning as market. Like a farmer's market. A place where people gather and buy or sell things. The Kanji also means 'city' but that usually has a different reading.

The character's name in the movie is Ichi. So, in the context of the movie, it is the Kanji for the character's name.
