The oldest Chinese characters ever found were written on what?

Oracle bones or tortoise shells?

The answer is neither of the above. The oldest Chinese characters that we know of were written on pottery. This pottery is known as Dawenkou Pottery and was first found in the 1960s. The pottery is 4,800 years old.
